The Ontonagon Valley Sportsmen’s Club is a community based non-profit conservation organization dedicated to promoting safe and prudent hunting, fishing, trapping and other recreational opportunities in the Ontonagon River Valley Watershed Area by enhancing habitat for those species that are native or traditional to this area. We participate in activities such as native brook trout and brown trout restoration and fish planting projects, cleanup of local streams, walleye rearing pond maintenance, construction and distribution of wood duck houses, and act as a forum for local input regarding the management of our area’s wildlife.

The OVSC is a strong supporter of our area youth. We participate in the annual 6th Graders Camp Nesbit “Outdoor Experience” Program by providing instructors for their Archery, Black Powder, .22 cal. Rifle and Shotgun programs. Throughout the summer, we provide outdoor sportsmen oriented activities such as casting instruction and contests at local community events. In cooperation with the MDNR, we assist with the youth firearms safety program which is presented in our local elementary schools. We sponsor summertime youth & women’s archery, rifle and shotgun shooting sports programs at our range on the Himanka Hill Road. The OVSC also promotes continuing education thru the Doug Johnson Memorial Scholarship program by offering two $1000 scholarships to a young man and a young woman graduating from any area watershed school for help with their post high school education or training.

The OVSC also provides sponsorship for area women to attend the MDNR Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program. The BOW program introduces women to a wide variety of outdoor related activities from photography, to canoeing, to fly fishing, to plant identification to shooting events. The OVSC raises funds to support these many commitments by holding an annual Fall Sportsmen’s Unlimited Banquet, a Spring Smelt Fry, a Fall Turkey Shoot, a Winter Predator Hunt and …..of course…..membership dues!
